How I use essential oils for meditation, manifesting and spiritual wellness

When I first started using essential oils, it was primarily to support my physical wellness but I soon discovered that they are also powerful tools for emotional and spiritual health. Now they are a key part of my daily practice and the first thing I turn to if I need help with managing my moods.

Before I jump into how I use them in my practice, let me highlight that it isn't all 'woo-woo', there is solid scientic evidence that essential oils can support healthy emotional wellness. 

Here comes the science bit...

Emotions are information carrying molecules that bind to and react with cell receptors, get into cells and impact cell function and behaviour. Our emotions are processed throughout the body - in our mind, heart and gut. Emotions and essential oils interact chemically, and essential oils support healthy cell structure. In short - essential oils can help us to process our emotions and develop positive beliefs and behaviours. 

Ok still with me?  Science lesson over, here's how I use essential oils to support my daily concious creation practice. 

 
 

1. Deepening my meditation practice

Essential oils are now a fundamental part of my morning meditation practice. My actual practice varies greatly depending on what I need. Some days it looks like sitting in silence for 20 minutes, other days it's a few minutes of deep breathing or tuning into a guided mindfulness meditation. 

Frankincense - I put a drop of Frankincense on my third eye chakra (middle of the forehead between the eyebrows) before meditation. It's known as the oil of truth and supports in increased awareness and spiritual connection. It's perfect for meditation if you are looking for clarity or to tap into your inner truth. 

doTERRA Balance blend - This is the grounding blend - a mix of Spruce, Ho Wood, Frankincense, Blue Tansy, and Blue Chamomile. It strenghtens a connection with the lower body and the earth so is great to use if you find yourself stuck in your head a lot of the time. I apply balance to the soles of my feet before meditation or yoga for extra grounding. 

doTERRA Breathe blend - Breathe is a blend of Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Melaleuca (Tea Tree), Lemon, Cardamom, Ravensara, and Laurel Leaf that emits an airy and fresh mint aroma. It opens the airways and on an emotional level, Breathe helps us to release what no longer serves us. I pop a drop into the palms of my hands, rub them together and inhale. You could also use Peppermint for a similar experience. 

 
 

2. Anchoring my vision

Another part of my daily practice is to review my vision board and anchor into what I am creating. The key to manifesting anything is to really tune into the feeling of your vision. How does it feel to have the thing you desire? Visualise your ideal life and anchor into the details.

I love to use essential oils aromatically to heighten my visualisation. I'll intuitively pick an oil from my collection or use one of my favourites below and add it to my diffuser. 

Ginger - The oil of empowerment! This beauty is all about taking responsibility for your own life, and seeing yourself as the creator you are. 

Passion (Inspiring blend) - A blend of Cardamom Seed, Cinnamon Bark, Ginger Rhizome, Clove Bud, Sandalwood Wood, Jasmine Flower, Vanilla Bean, Damiana Leaf (I actually use this as my perfume). Passion helps you to reignite your inner spark, face your fears and break free from limitations. 

Wild Orange - Ah wild orange (I am obsessed with this one!). Not only is it an uplifting oil, it's also the oil of abundance. It's a great one to diffuse when tuning into your vision as it helps you to connect to the expansiveness of the universe and feel into potential. 

 
 

3. Supercharging my intentions

Once I'm anchored into my vision I will set my intentions for the day. 

Throughout the day I'll check in with my intentions and often use essential oils to support me. 

Motivate (encouraging blend) - A blend of Peppermint plant, Clementine Peel, Coriander Seed, Basil Herb, Yuzu Peel, Melissa Leaf, Rosemary Leaf, and Vanilla Bean. I use this on my pulse points or add to my diffuser if I need a little motivational boost. 

Citrus oils - Oils form citrus plants are incredible upfliting and motvating so I'll often diffuse them whilst I'm working. I love Wild Orange, Lemongrass or Lime to create a high-vibe environment. 

Peppermint  - Peppermint is another favourite of mine because it is so invigorating to the mind, body and spirit. If I'm feeling deflated, or in need of an energetic boost I will drop peppermint into my plams and inhale or smell straight from the bottle. 

 
 

4. Managing my moods

Aromatic molecules have direct access to the limbic area, or emotional seat, of the brain, which means diffusing essential oils can be a great tool for mood management. 

The oils I use vary wildly depending on how I want to feel. If I'm struggling with overwhelm or confusion I'll turn to grounding oils such as White Fir, Black Pepper or Vetiver. If I'm stressed or anxious I will reach for Lavender, Peppermint or Frankincense. For feelings of apathy or if I'm stuck I'll turn to Spearmint, Lemon or Juniper Berry.
