Learning to Cultivate Joy
Have you ever noticed how the things we enjoy the most are often the things we allow the least time for?
I've been thinking a lot about joy lately, in fact I made cultivating more of it my intention for August. I've found that when it comes to prioritising our time, the focus is on the list of things we should do and not on the things we enjoy doing.
Last week I woke up a little later than usual but I felt the call to take a long walk. Even though the call was strong, I almost talked myself out of it. The internal chatter was loud...
"You've got loads to do, you haven't got time to take a walk"
"If you'd got up earlier you could have gone, but you didn't"
Luckily I realised that I was self-sabotaging, put on my walking shoes and hit the pavement. The sun was shining, I listened to an inspiring podcast and felt the air in my lungs. It was glorious. When I returned home and sat my desk I felt so high-vibe that creativity was flowing out of me. I spent the afternoon in a state of complete focus and productivity.
A huge reminder that when I show up for myself first, I show up for others at a much higher frequency.
I'm inviting you to cultivate more joy this week by prioritising the things that make you feel alive.
Move your body
Sing loudly in the shower
Get creative in the kitchen
Dance naked in your bedroom
Joy is your birthright.
