How to Boost Your Energy The Natural Way

I don't know about you but as the days get shorter and colder, I find myself more prone to slumps in my energy levels.  It's not uncommon to find myself wanting to curl up under a blanket with a hot tea and a box set. Where I used to turn to caffiene for a mid-afternoon pep, I now dig into my toolkit of natural solutions.

Here's my top 8 natural ways to boost your energy...

1. Take Quality Supplements

Whilst I try to get as many nutrients as possible through my diet, I do find that good quality supplements really help to boost my energy levels and immune system, especially at times of seasonal change. 

2. Workout in the middle of the day

I usually prefer to get my workout done in the morning before I head into my day, but if I am feeling a bit of an energy slump I make sure to step away from ym desk and move my body. A walk with my dogs, a few Yoga stretches or even a quick 10 minute power clean of my kitchen all help to perk me up. Studies suggest that working out around midday can increase your productivity—making the time away from your desk worth it. 

3. Meditate

Deep breathing from the diaphragm can help get your blood flowing and fight off any anxiety that may be creeping in. One of my favourites for an energy boost is the Kundalini meditation, Breath of Fire

4. Invigorate with Essential Oils

Diffusing any citrus essential oil is shown to help uplift and improve your mood, while Frankincense, Peppermint, and Rosemary are beneficial in invigorating the senses. If I need a super quick burst of energy, I rub 1 drop of Peppermint into the palms of my hands, cup them and then breathe deeply. 

5. Eat Smaller, More Frequent Meals

When you start to get hungry your mood and level of activity can quickly decline. To keep off hunger pangs, I tend to eat healthier, smaller meals more often. I always make sure I have protein and a healthy fat with each meal or snack. Some of my faves are avocado on toasted rye bread, apple slices and a handful of nuts or a hard boiled egg.  

6. Stay Hydrated 

It’s important to keep water in your system, even when the weather is cooling down and you feel like you don’t need as much. I always avoid sugary drinks that can actually dehydrate you more and focus on water or herbal teas. For a cleansing boost I add a drop of Lemon or Grapefruit essential oil to a big glass of water (grapefruit is also great for boosting your metabloism). 

7. Get a Good Night's Sleep

Your body does a lot during sleep, including healing and rejuvenating. I try to make sure I always get a good amount of sleep (although it doesn't always work out), and I've been putitng my phone into airplane mode to avoid screen time last thing at night or first thing in the morning. 

8. Take a Power Nap

I used to think that napping = laziness but I'm learning the value of taking a quick midday power nap. I don't do it everyday, but if I am feeling particularly low in energy I might rest for 10–20 minutes.
