Refreshing your home for the New Year
The decorations are packed away for another year and this is the perfect time to freshen up the home. As much as I love all things Christmas, I’m always ready to get the house back in order after a couple of weeks of hosting guests and these are my favourite (natural) ways to get the house back in order.
Diffusing essential oils
Whilst the diffuser has been going throughout the festive period, this is the time of year where I lean towards fresh scents. Diffusing pure, therapeutic grade oils is a great way to fragrance your home. Unlike those dreadful plug-in air fresheners or scented candles that are full of toxins, essential oils have numerous health benefits. So not only do they make your house smell amazing, they can also boost your immune system, uplift mood, help aid sleep and so much more!
Another way to bring the freshness back into your home is to spruce up your laundry routine. I love to make linen sprays that I can use on our freshly-washed laundry, sofa cushions, curtains etc.
Essential oil linen spray
10 drops each of Siberian Fir and Grapefruit.
Mix with water in a glass bottle and shake before each use.
Spray your linen before folding and storing.
This is the perfect to clean those areas that maybe don’t get too much attention the rest of the year. Think behind the fridge, under sofas, inside of kitchen cabinets etc.
It’s also an awesome time to declutter drawers, cupboards and maybe even the garage or garden shed.
One of the tasks on my to-do list this week is to give all of our mattresses a refresher. This is super simple to do, I’ve shared my all-natural mattress refresher recipe before on the blog.
Another thing on my list is to clear out my wardrobe. I’ll be popping some more transitional pieces into storage until the Spring, and making sure everything that’s hanging in my closet is something I will wear and love.
