Essential Oils for Winter Wellness
Whilst I love winter, it does bring some of the darkest, coldest, and gloomiest days of the year - which means I sometimes need a little extra wellness support.
For me, I find that good nutrition and getting outside during daylight every day are two keys ways to manage my self-care in the colder months. And of course, I dive into my toolkit of beautiful essential oils throughout the day to help support my mind and body.
It’s no secret that essential oils are the foundation for my wellness, and in winter they are even more pivotal to my health. Here’s how I utilise them…
Even though I love winter and all that it brings, I do sometimes find myself struggling to adjust to the darker, shorter days. For many of us, this is also such a busy season and keeping grounded and balanced is key.
Grapefruit, Lime, Wild Orange, Green Mandarin, Citrus Bliss - These are some of my go-to oils for enhancing my mood. Citrus oils have both uplifting and energising properties that make them perfect for this time of year. I love adding a citrus oil to my diffuser blends in winter.
Douglas Fir, Serenity, Balance - My trusty trio of oils for helping me stay sane during the craziness of the holiday season. I find any tree oils to be incredibly calming so I’ll often pop them in the diffuser on winter nights or add them to a carrier oil for a pre-bedtime massage.
Immunity & clear breathing
As the seasons change and the temperature drops, it’s super important to ensure that we give our immune system the best possible support. Of course, eating well, taking high-quality supplements and staying hydrated are key - but essential oils can also be a great way to add a little extra spring in your step.
OnGuard - My immune-boosting staple. I diffuse this, use it my cleaning products, hand wash, laundry detergent and in winter baking recipes. It’s a powerhouse blend of oils when it comes to immunity.
Air, Eucalyptus, Peppermint - It’s that time of year when we can find ourselves in need of a little extra respiratory support. Air blend, eucalyptus and peppermint are all great for keeping airways clear. Apply over the chest, add to steamy bathwater, or diffuse at night. Be careful to dilute both Eucalyptus and Peppermint for skin sensitivity.
Cold, dry, and windy weatherman leave our skin dry and irritated. One of my favourite acts of self-care is to intuitively choose oils that support my skin and apply them in an aromatic dressing (add to a carrier oil and massage your body from head to toe!).
Lavender - A super soothing oil, lavender is great for any minor skin irritations, or areas of dryness.
Frankincense - My favourite oil for skin, I add Frankincense to my facial moisturiser every single morning and night.
It’s that time of year when we can be prone to little extra indulgence (another mince pie anyone?) so our digestive system might need a little boost.
Zengest - The most incredible blend of oils when it comes to alleviating discomfort and supporting healthy digestive function. Put a few drops in your water or rub on your stomach or the bottom of your feet to help relieve occasional stomach discomfort.
